About PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Along
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Along, located in the picturesque town of Along (Aalo) in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India, was established in 1987 under the aegis of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Vidyalaya was established with the objective of providing quality education to the children of transferable Central Government employees, particularly personnel of the Indian Defence Services and other government organisations serving in remote and strategically important areas of the country.
Over the years, the Vidyalaya has emerged as an important centre of quality school education in the region, providing students with opportunities for academic excellence, co-curricular development, sports, creativity, technological learning and holistic personality development.
A significant milestone in the journey of the Vidyalaya was its selection under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative. On 29 July 2026, the Vidyalaya became a PM SHRI School, marking a new chapter in its commitment to providing modern, inclusive, equitable and holistic education. The PM SHRI initiative aims to develop selected schools as exemplar institutions that showcase the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and serve as models for quality school education.
As a PM SHRI Vidyalaya, the school is committed to strengthening experiential and competency-based learning, innovative pedagogy, digital education, skill development, sports and physical education, environmental sustainability, inclusive education and the holistic development of every learner. The PM SHRI framework also emphasises a safe and stimulating learning environment, activity-based learning, school-based assessment, holistic progress of students and the development of green and sustainable school practices.
The Vidyalaya is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and functions under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. It currently serves students up to the Senior Secondary level and continues to strive towards academic excellence while nurturing the values of discipline, integrity, scientific temper, creativity, national unity and responsible citizenship.
